The Child is the Curriculum: Nurturing Young Minds 🌱

"The Child is the Curriculum"

At Jubilee Day Nursery and Jubilee Gems, we believe every child has a unique way of learning that’s driven by their natural curiosity. Their little minds are constantly exploring, observing, and creating, using the world around them as their classroom. That’s why we let them take the lead - because the child truly is the curriculum.

Children learn best when they’re free to interact with their environment. Whether it’s through imaginative outdoor play, experimenting with creative resources, or exploring new textures, every moment becomes a chance to grow.

Our approach encourages children to ask questions, test ideas, and embrace their surroundings. This hands-on learning creates opportunities to develop skills naturally, all while fostering their confidence and independence.

Mud Kitchens: The Ultimate Learning Tool 🍂

At both of our nurseries, our mud kitchens have become a firm favourite among the children. These spaces aren’t just about messy play (although we love that too!); they’re about exploration and experimentation. Whether it’s ‘cooking’ with leaves and water, ‘building’ mud towers, or simply feeling the squelch between their fingers, these activities allow children to:

  • Develop fine motor skills

  • Enhance sensory awareness

  • Explore creative thinking and problem-solving

  • Build social connections through teamwork

Plus, the joy and giggles that come with muddy hands are priceless.

  • “Digging big holes” – J

  • “Mixing Wow” – B

  • “Mud” – E

So, next time you see muddy hands and happy smiles, know that learning is in full swing!
